The range includes Simatic automation components which support high-speed IRT (Isochronous RealTime) Profinet communication. IRT is especially useful for large machines and equipment with a large number of nodes requiring very short updating times. Products with IRT capability ensure the transfer of high-speed automation data is managed successfully in conjunction with the increasingly high volumes of standard Ethernet data on production and office networks which are less time-critical.

As a further development Siemens also integrates FSU (Fast Start Up) functionality into many Profinet IO devices enabling power up within one second, particularly useful for flexible manufacturing applications, for example, where rapid re-tooling is necessary.

Many of Siemens Profinet products now include integrated web servers that provide user-friendly diagnostic functions for use in monitoring or troubleshooting.

Siemens in Ireland

Siemens has a long-standing tradition of delivering key infrastructure projects in Ireland including the first direct Trans-Atlantic cable in 1874 and Shannon Hydro-electric Scheme which continues to produce green electricity. The company recently completed the largest on-shore wind farm in Ireland for Airtricity. The first electrical railway in Ireland, the Giants Causeway tramway was built by the company in 1882 and brought holiday makers from Portrush to the great natural wonder of the North Antrim coast. More recently in 1984 Siemens delivered the overhead line system for the DART network.
